End of Season Yard Sale Extravaganza

Mark your calendar for Saturday, September 6, from 7:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.  This sale will be held in the courtyard behind CCAL.  Donated items are welcome and the proceeds will benefit Cody Country Art League.

Fall Classes

Beading – Begins Wednesday, October 8, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  The class will meet each Wednesday for six weeks.  Instructor: Linda Burwick.  Cost: $110.00 for CCAL members and $120.00 for non-members. Materials extra.

Beginner/Intermediate Oil Painting – Begins Thursday, October 16, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  The class will meet each Thursday for six weeks.  Instructor: Berna L. Ost.  Cost: $110.00 for CCAL members and $120.00 for non-members.  Materials extra.

Weaving – Begins Thursday, October 16, from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. The class will meet each Thursday for six weeks.  Instructor: Liz Murray.  Cost: $110.00 for CCAL members and $120.00 for non-members. Materials extra.

Wood Carving – Begins Tuesday, October 21, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  The class will meet each Tuesday for six weeks (except Thanksgiving week).  Instructor: Dennis Barhaug. Cost: $110.00 for CCAL members and $120.00 for non-members. Materials extra.

Pottery – Begins Tuesday, October 21, from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.  The class will meet each Tuesday for six weeks.  Instructor: Steve Schrepferman. $135.00 for CCAL members and $140.00 for non-members. Clay and materials extra.

Decorative Furniture Painting - Begins Friday, October 24, from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. The class will meet each Friday for six weeks (except Thanksgiving week).  Instructor: Shirley Barhaug.  Cost: $110.00 for CCAL members and $120.00 for non-members.  Materials extra.

BBHC Art Show Week

During the week of the Buffalo Bill Art Show and Sale the League be hosting several artist demonstrations. Pat Kuper will be painting here Friday, September 26 and we will have a listing of the other artists shortly.  For more information, please call CCAL.

v     Special Shows: October 6-31 – Wildlife Show.

v     “Landscapes Inside and Out” – Saturday, November 8, and Sunday, November 9.  This will be a special weekend workshop focusing on pastels led by CCAL member Gary Huber.   Cost: $100.00 for members; $110.00 for non-members.

v     Several members of CCAL participated in the Wind River Valley Artists’ Guild 2008 National Art Show and Sale:  Kay Abeyta, Honorable Mention, Professional, Oil; Sable Abeyta, Third Place, All Media Combined – Youth; Nancy Garcia, First Place, Professional, Mixed Media; Jerry Rogers, Professional, Popular Award, Sculpture; Gary Huber, Second Place, Professional, Pastel, and Professional, Popular Award, Pastel; Billie Wright, Honorable Mention, Professional, Oil.  Congratulations to all!

v     Carbon County Arts Guild in Red Lodge featured “The Art of Tom McCoy” during the month of August.

v     Gary Huber’s painting ‘Winter Morning Barns” was chosen Best of Show in the 2008 Mile Hi National Art Show by Master Pastellist, Duane Wakeham.  The show is sponsored by the Pastel Society of Colorado and draws entries from across the United States.  This year the venue for the show is the Sangre de Cristo Arts Center in Pueblo, Colorado, and hangs until October 24.  Other recent honors for Gary are: Signature Membership in the Pastel Society of Colorado; Paint the Parks top 200 and Top Mini 100; Popularity Award and 2nd Place, Professional Pastel at the Wind River Valley Artist’s Guild 59th National Show; and Second Place, Professional Pastel at our 43rd Annual Show.  Gary will also be teaching a landscape workshop for the Casper Artist’s Guild October 10 and 11 in Casper, Wyoming, and judging their annual show. 

v     Member meetings will be Wednesday, September 17, and Wednesday, October 15, at 12:00 noon.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

v     Please call the League the day before if you need to pick up your work.  There is only one employee on duty at a time and this will speed up the process if you give us notice.

Griz Gathering News

All of the small bears will be on display at Cody Country Art League August 30 through September 30. Bidding on the small bears will conclude at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, September 1.  On Monday, September 29, there will be a big bear wash and pizza party from 10:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the new library.  Anyone who wants to wield a sponge or a hose and get up close and personal to a bear is welcome. The large bear auction will be Saturday, October 4, at 4:30 p.m. immediately following the opening ceremonies for the new library.
